According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department’s (MET) forecast, several areas in the Peninsular will experience heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong wind until this Thursday (2 November) which is probably due to the upcoming monsoon season.
Those staying in low-lying areas in the country should take extra precaution as you are at risk of flooding due to the continuous rain.
The areas affected are: Perak (Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datoh and Hilir Perak), Selangor (Gombak, Petaling Jaya, Klang, Kuala Langat, Sepang and Hulu Langat), Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Jempol and Tampin), Johor (Segamat, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Kota Tinggi, Johor Bahru, Kulai and Pontian), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Rompin, Pekan and Kuantan), Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Bachok, Pasir Puteh, Machang and Tanah Merah), and Terengganu.
Terengganu has closed its islands until March next year due to the monsoon season.
Strong winds with speeds up to 40-50km/hour and waves up to 3.5 meters are expected to occur at waters off Samui (Thailand), Tioman, Bunguran, Condore, Reef North, Layang-Layang, as well as off the coast of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor.
The MET department has cautioned Malaysians of recreational activites near the sea as “the condition of strong winds and rough seas is dangerous to small crafts, recreational sea activities and sea sports.”
Maybe it’s time to revise your weekend or holiday plans and opt for something indoor or activities not involving the sea.
