AG waiting for blogger Raja Petra’s apology
KUALA LUMPUR: Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali is still waiting for an apology from blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin over an online article carrying a corruption allegation against him.
He said he will proceed to sue if there was no apology from the blogger.
“If there is no apology forthcoming from him, I will definitely sue him till kingdom come.
“How can he smear my name? I don’t even know him. It is (concerning) my reputation,” he told reporters at a press conference here today.
Asked if he was giving a time frame to Raja Petra to apologise, he said: “I don’t know. I have sent messages and signals to him that he should apologise. I will give him time but not too long.”
He said even though the defamation was directed towards the AG, he will sue Raja Petra in his personal capacity.
“It does not matter if I sue him here or there,” he added, referring to Raja Petra, who is at present in the United Kingdom.
On Oct 25, Apandi confirmed with NST Online that police reports were filed in Kuantan and Putrajaya on Sunday.
Apandi had said the offence comes under Section 499 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation.
Police said apart from Section 499, the investigation was also being conducted under Section 233 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Raja Petra had alleged Apandi had demanded RM4 million from a Chinese businessman, identified as a “business partner” of the Sultan of Johor, on a case he had won.
