DBKL to re-audit bicycle routes in city
KL mayor Mhd Amin Nordin says he'll get views on this from mayors and ambassadors from European countries attending World Urban Forum in KL.
KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will re-audit the 11km bicycle route in the federal capital within two months to ensure long-term road safety.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said among the things that need to be re-coordinated were the bus, pedestrian and bicycle routes, which were said to be overlapping in certain areas.
“For example, in Jalan Raja Laut, bus routes are also used as pedestrian and bicycle paths.
“It is viewed as overlapping and is actually dangerous if the routes are used simultaneously.
“We actually have a master plan to improve the 11km bicycle route but first we need to get feedback from the public for re-auditing,” he told reporters after opening the World Urban Village, in conjunction with the World Urban Forum 9 (WUF9) here today.
Amin said he would seek views from mayors and ambassadors from European countries attending the forum to help improve the bicycle route.
At the event, DBKL and Think City unveiled the Urban Village located at Medan Pasar here to highlight regeneration efforts in the heart of historical Kuala Lumpur.
Amin said the idea was to showcase the possibility of individual living, sharing resources, interest and ideals, while at the same time still having sufficient private spaces.
“What separates this from other ‘shared living’ experiences is the desire to bring back the ‘kampung spirit’ into the city,” he said.
