Police say it takes allegations and questions raised in the Facebook post seriously, as it gives a negative perception towards government agencies.
KUALA LUMPUR: The police have detected a defamatory statement posted on social media attempting to tarnish the image of the country’s security force.
Police corporate communications chief Asmawati Ahmad said the Facebook status was uploaded using an account bearing the name and profile picture of a former leader.
“The statement was accompanied with a picture of two vehicles, allegedly used by the police team. We wish to clarify, that the two vehicles were being used as props by a company filming the movie “The Original Sin” around Putrajaya.
“The movie tells the tale of a police officer in a fictitious city, and it is being produced to be shown or marketed in China,” she said in a statement today.
She said the police took the allegations and questions raised in the post seriously, as it clearly tried to portray a negative perception towards government agencies.
Hence, she said the public was advised not to upload any status update without first ensuring the authenticity of the information, as it could bring negative implications.
Asmawati said social media users should be wise and responsible, and not abuse the medium to spread issues that could cause public annoyance.
She said it was also inappropriate for any party to misuse the pictures of dignitaries as their social media account profile image to promote their own agenda.
Yesterday, the news and picture of two China police cars being used in the country went viral, raising negative perceptions against the local police force.
