GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government will be holding a gathering to celebrate 10 years of governance of the northern state with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng promising “an important announcement”.
He said the celebrations would take place on March 11, from 7pm to 11pm at the Esplanade.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad, PH’s candidate for prime minister in the 14th general election, and Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is PH’s candidate for deputy PM, are expected to take the stage along with other party leaders.
“The good news is refreshments will be served that night.
“Of course, the state government will also be making an important announcement that night,” he said at a press conference here today.
However, when asked to elaborate on the important announcement, Lim merely told the press to “wait lah”.

Some other state executive councillors jokingly said the press should come for the light refreshments, as that was important as well.
Lim and his team have governed Penang for 10 years after the general election on March 8, 2008.
They were again returned to power in the 13th general election (GE13) in 2013, with BN unsuccessful in its bid to unseat the then Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government.
Earlier, at the same press conference, Lim announced the organisation structure of the Penang i4.0 Seed Fund, comprising a steering committee and an evaluation committee.
The seed fund, which will be launched on March 10, was established by the state government to provide funding for new inventions and encourage innovations so as to help create awareness and increase participation in the industry 4.0 revolution and digital economy.
The steering committee will be chaired by Lim. Other members include state executive councillor Chow Kon Yeow, special investment adviser to the chief minister Lee Kah Choon and state financial officer Sarul Bahiyah.
“The steering committee will approve the policy and framework of the fund, appoint the evaluation committee members, and approve the final fund recipients,” he said.
The 13-member evaluation committee comprises, among others, Loo Lee Lian (investPenang chief executive officer), Yap Soo Huey (Pulau Tikus assemblyman), Howie Chang (@CAT Penang programme director), Cheok Lay Leng (Penang Hill Corporation general manager), and Tang Ching Siang (PDC Telco general manager).
The committee, which will be chaired by Loo, is tasked with evaluating the proposals and candidates, and provide recommendations for final approval.
It will offer advice to the state on strategies and policies covering planning, implementation, direction and improvement of the fund.
