Cabinet to look at upgrade for primary school administrators
The Perak Headmasters Council wants primary school administrators be put on par with their secondary school counterparts.
IPOH: The proposal that primary school administrators, specifically headmasters and senior assistants, be upgraded to be on par with secondary school administrators will go before the cabinet.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the proposal from the Perak Headmasters Council should be taken seriously as recognition for the teaching profession.
“The proposal needs to be viewed rationally. I will bring it up in the cabinet meeting this Friday,” he said when opening the 30th Perak Headmasters Council Convention and Delegates Conference here today.
The council’s president Rustam Affandy Abdul Aziz had proposed that primary school administrators be put on par with secondary school administrators.
Primary school administrators are on Grades DG 34 and DG 32, while secondary school administrators are on Grades DG52 and DG48.
Zahid said principals and headmasters were important institutions in the education sector, especially in ensuring that schools were well managed.
“The schools have to be managed with good methodology because otherwise, the schools will not function properly,” he said.
Earlier, Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir said the state government had launched various educational programmes, including the Special Adoption Programme, for schools with poor examination results.
“We need to build the confidence and self-esteem of students and educate them to achieve outstanding results in examinations. This is despite the fact that education comes under federal jurisdiction.”
