Najib: Is it my fault too if cats don’t give birth?

At election meeting in Penang, BN chairman questions why he is being blamed for the failure of Mahathir's bakery business.

BN chairman Najib Razak attacked critics who cast blame on him for all types of things.

BUTTERWORTH: Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Razak has reiterated that he has nothing to do with the closure of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s bakery chain, The Loaf, and said any accusation that he had a hand in the closure was ridiculous.

Najib said the bakery was destined to be wound-up, as the outlets were deserted.

“Don’t blame everything on the prime minister. Bakery shop closure also you blame the PM. That is weird. I just got back from Langkawi, Dr Mahathir’s bakery at Telaga Harbour in the daytime is deserted.

“If in the morning someone does not buy your bread, then why would they buy bread even at night, when people would rather eat in restaurants? Is that also the PM’s fault?

“How can you ever succeed, like that? I think if cats do not give birth (kucing tidak beranak) it will also be the PM’s fault,” he said to a chorus of laughter at a talk in Tasek Gelugor here today.

Mahathir, who had denied having shares in The Loaf, was later revealed by Najib to have had RM10 million shares in the company. Mahathir later said he was selling off the company becaue of the bad economy.

The Loaf, which opened its first outlet in Langkawi in 2006, ceased operations on April 12.

Mahathir, chairman of Pakatan Harapan, is contesting the Langkawi parliamentary election on May 9. He is opposed by BN’s Nawawi Ahmad, who seeks re-election and PAS’ Zubir Ahmad.
