Sabah PH’s manifesto has unnerved BN, says youth wing
It says BN needs a reality check.
KOTA KINABALU: The all-encompassing manifesto that Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) launched recently has unnerved certain quarters within Barisan Nasional, PH’s Sabah youth wing claimed today.
Sabah BN Backbenchers Club chairman Rahim Ismail had recently described Sabah PH’s promises in its manifesto as a “far-fetched dream”.
He also said PH is daydreaming about having a deputy prime minister for Sabah or Sarawak if it wins in the upcoming elections.
The youth wing’s secretary, Razeef Rakimin, told FMT today Rahim’s statement was a sign that BN was now nervous about PH’s five-point manifesto launched recently for Sabah.
“From his statement, it’s clear to all BN‘s low opinion of Sabah and Sarawak. To them, leaders from the Borneo territories do not qualify for the deputy prime minister’s post.
“And his reasoning that PH can only win in Sabah but not at the federal level doesn’t hold water because people know that BN in Peninsular Malaysia was almost toppled (in the last election). If PH wins in Sabah, BN will surely lose throughout the country.”
According to Razeef, Rahim’s accusation that PH does not see reality is only to make himself feel better or to appease Chief Minister Musa Aman, who is also Sabah BN liaison chairman.
“In the 12th general election, the opposition won only one seat in Sabah. In the next one, we won three parliamentary and 11 state constituencies. Who’s missing reality here?”
Sabah PH had a soft launch of its manifesto for Sabah, focusing on five core struggles pertaining to the federal government, fair oil rights, fair basic infrastructure and land development, quality education, as well as empowerment of youths, women and minorities.
“The people have to be confident of PH’s ability to deliver these goals as BN failed them for 54 years after the formation of Malaysia,” Razeef said.
“The PH governments in Selangor and Penang, two states which account for 25% of the Malaysian population, both contribute 29.2% of the nation’s GDP, the biggest contribution of all states.
“The welfare of the people is also looked after through various schemes such as Smart Selangor, infrastructure facilities development and more. This is proof that PH can be a much better government than BN.”
Earlier, Rahim had said BN had been doing well in developing Sabah and fulfilling its rights while PH was only making empty promises.
“PH obviously still doesn’t know the reality of the situation,” said Rahim, who is also Pantai Manis assemblyman.
“BN has been administering the nation and Sabah well for a long time and is trusted by the people, especially those in rural areas.
“We have brought a lot of development to the state, not just for a year or two but for many years.
“In fact, some of our aspirations have already been realised, such as getting shares in oil exploration companies and so on.
“We at BN have proven our worth but PH is still daydreaming.
“They are still making promises while we at BN have been fulfilling ours and will deliver much more in the future.”
