ali banat wiki: Ali Banat (28 November 1985 – 29 May 2018) was an Australian humanitarian, philanthropist, charity worker, social activist and former businessman from Sydney, Australia. He was known for his viral video “Gifted With Cancer” and his organization which he founded called MATW Project.

Career

Ali Banat owned a security and an electrical company before dedicating the remainder of his life to humanitarian work, which he made mention of in an interview with YouTuber Adam Saleh. He rose to prominence in October 2015 when, after being diagnosed with cancer, a video of his titled “Gifted with Cancer” in which he was interviewed by his friend Mohammed Hoblos, went viral on YouTube and later on other forms of social media. Since then, he decided to dedicate his life towards charitable and humanitarian causes. He founded the Muslims Around The World (MATW) Project which focused on providing food, education and other humanitarian aid programs in African countries such as Togo, Ghana and Burkina Faso. Ali Banat had a large following on social media which included Instagram and Facebook. He had also created a GoFundMe campaign for his organization.

Illness and Death

Banat was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and despite been given only 7 months to live by the doctors, he lived the next 3 years. He gave up all his possessions and decided he would do something to help humanity. He then set up the MATW project where he received countless of donations. He became an internet legend where people looked up to him due to his courage of coping with cancer and giving back to the society. He passed away on 29 May 2018 in Sydney, Australia. Thousands of mourners attended his funeral on 30 May 2018. Australian Islamic Scholar Sheikh Abu Bakr Zoud gave a final farewell send-off at his funeral. As a Muslim, Banat was buried accordingly to Islamic rites within 24 hours of his death.

Legacy

Ali Banats organization, MATW Project, has ongoing projects in Togo, Africa which through his efforts with his organization and donations from many generous people from around the world have seen a village being built which includes housing in which over 200 widows would reside, a mosque for the community and a school to house 600 orphans. In addition, MATW Project has been working on providing transportation to the people in form of buses and light-speed motorbikes and a bakery in Togo for the less fortunate, helping Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and aiding the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.Ali Banat is survived by his parents and siblings.
